The only flaw to the binding is a tiny bit of paper stuck to the rear cover. Otherwise it is pristine-and bright! The decorated endpapers show a little discoloration, and there is a 'to-from' inscription on the front free endpaper. Also, a very very small waterstain on the upper corner of the first six leaves. Otherwise the contents are fine.

The original dustjacket, while admittedly poor, stained, chipped, has a lovely illustration on the front panel by T. Earl Christy, and is, in any case, exceedingly scarce.
Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1866. Brown embossed cloth with gilt decoration on front, blind-stamped on back, much gilt lettering and decoration to spine. Subtitle: 'Or, Three Years in the Holy City.' The cover has some stains on front and is worn with frayed corners. The cover is not necessarily the one pictured on the internet. Mildy soiled closed edge. The front hinge crack made the first few pages loose so the pages are taped. The front endpage has the former owner's name and date. Occasional stains on text.

This is the first of his biblical romances, selling more than a million copies in the 19th century, and is an epistolary novel about a young jewish girl during the life of Christ which was first published in New York in 1855. The SCARCE JAMES BLACKWOOD edition.
Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾' - 7¾' tall. Chicago: George M. Hill Company, 1899 A daughter of a descendant of the House of David travels to Jerusalem after it had been captured by the Romans and writes back to her father about what she sees.
This book is in good condition. On the second blank page is the first owner's name and the date Oct 29th, 1899. The boards are a lighter blue with the lettering in silver and the art work in red. The spine has faded a bit and there is some soiling along the edges.
There are tiny holes in the gutter along the front of the spine. The spine is tight. The last blank page has a crease.
The interior is clean. 12mo - over 6¾' - 7¾' tall. George Routledge and Sons, Undated.
Good/No Jacket. The boards are shelf rubbed and worn at the corners. Some fraying at the head and toe of spine. The front end page is stripped. There is a previous owner's name sticker - dated 1884 - after the front end page.
This is a fair indication around when the book was published. The spine is partly cracked within. The back end page has been removed. The pages are tanned, but the text is still crisp and legible.
Occasional age related marks can be noticed in the text. The blocks are gilded. Tightly bound and complete with 410 pages.
