There is a space for one (in a vacant flexibay) and I've located a drive via the Dell website, which indicates compatibility with the XPS 430: Origin Storage Hard Drive 1TB SATA 150 (Dell Part: A7201339) Is this feasible? If there are free SATA slots, you should have no trouble adding a 2nd drive. The drive you've mentioned sounds like it's a SATA I HDD and the one you currently have is a SATA II drive. You'd be able to use the SATA I drive as well, because the SATA interface is backwards compatible, but you should have no trouble with any SATA drive as long as it's 2TB or less.
Just make sure that you have cables in your case for an extra drive. Edit: Seems like you've already been given an answer before you wrote mine. Hope that helps.

So far I love the system but 256gb is not enough HD space. My intentions according to many conversations with dell reps was that I can add another hard drive in the 2.5 slot.
Well come to find out, the hard drive cage is there it looks like it supports a 7mm 2.5 drive. There is NO sata connector on the MB!
The part that you plug the hard drive in is completely missing. It looks to be proprietary too. Does anyone know where to get this cable? Has anyone tried or used other similar cables to add a HD in this laptop?
Dell parts does not have it. Wish I had known this before I opened the box.
EDIT: Called Dell and spent about two hours on the phone. No one knows what I am talking about.
The first person thought I needed a regular sata cable. Second person I called tried to transfer me to another department that would know because he understood that I was trying to add a 2.5 inch drive to my laptop.that department closes at 7pm. I choose the XPS 15 inch model with 1 TB HD to have the option to use regular SSDs in it.
They do not put this cable in laptops that do not have HD because that translates into savings for them. My guess is that there is a specific standard for notebooks cables which carries data and power in a single conector. My Acer had a cable that sounds like what OP says, but never saw anywhere else. Also, I prefered the 15' because of the mechanical HD. Internal mSata or M2 ports are not always compatible with everything in the market. My brother has an Acer UB which had a 120 GB mSata SSD. We got a Micron 512 GB SSD that would make the UB get stuck on a bootloop.
After a few UEFI updates released it eventually worked, but we had to wait almost a year to think about trying it again.
