Trivia Originally, the emperor was portrayed by Death (the Family Guy Grim Reaper character), but during the writing of Family Guy's upcoming spoof of (1983), the writers decided that Carter Pewterschmidt would make a better emperor. As a result, the emperor scene in this episode was re-animated with Carter in the role. Though unintentional, this sequence of events closely mirrors events surrounding the exact same scene in the real (1980).
An unknown elderly actress was hired to play the small role of the emperor in 'The Empire Strikes Back', with a male voice-over. But when the role became more extensive in 'Return of the Jedi', actor was chosen for the role and went on to replay the role in all three Star Wars prequels. After the prequel trilogy was completed two decades later, re-shot the emperor's scene in 'The Empire Strikes Back' with McDiarmid in the role, to bring the scene in line with all the other movies in the series. All currant releases of 'The Empire Strikes Back' have McDiarmid playing the emperor instead of the original actress. I am not a fan of the Family Guy series, actually I have never even sat through a whole episode. Just watched fragments of it while zapping around on the TV.
However, this movie was such a treat. Being a huge 'Star Wars' fan, I decided to watch it, based on the cover alone. It is always fun to watch a spoof of something. And this movie delivered. I was laughing a lot throughout the length of the movie. Now, without having seen the series, it is impossible for me to say whether or not this movie lives up to the comedy standards of the series. But without having seen them, I can honestly say that this movie is great.
Loads of laughs here. Remember this is a spoof, do not watch this if you get offended or angry by something making fun of the 'Star Wars' franchise.
I had a blast watching this, and I think it definitely have enough punch in it for a second watching later on. It is just that unique and funny. This animation picks up the 'Star Wars' story and beats it with a funny stick.
